EEE481 and EEE581          Fall 2007

MakeUp Exam is on 22-1-2008 Tuesday at 14:00 in EA222.

10-12-2007: MT2 will be on 26-12-2007

10-12-2007: Most students have not solved HW4 properly. I have now revised HW4 and have added some explanations. Please do this exercise again. If you think that the data you had collected previously is OK, then you do not have to repeat the experiment but only redo the signal processing. If you collect the data again, you may make your recordings for 30 seconds instead of 60 seconds. Also for baseline wander experiment it is advisable to locate one of the elctrodes on the chest as explained in the revised HW4 document.

12-12-2007: There will be a demo for nerve conduction and blood pressure experiments on 13-12-2007 Thursday at 15:30 in the lab.

Last note: There will be a demo ALSO on 14-12-2007 Friday at 13:30 in the lab. There will not be any other demo. Please come to one of the demos for sure.

13-12-2007: For reading material and for getting ready for the exam I have prepared 116 pages of photocopies. You can get the master copy from the reserve library and make copies for yourself.

16-12-2007: MT1 grades are announced.

16-12-2007: I have given another homework, but this time not to be graded. It is there for you to study. The solution is also given.

17-12-2007: There seems to be a mistake in the notes on the ursino model of the ventricle. I have noted that Rla = 2.5e-3 mmHg.s/ml but the numerical values in the tables at the end of the notes are obtained with Rla = 25e-3 mmHg.s/ml by mistake. A more realistic value seems to be Rla = 10e-3 mmHg.s/ml. You can look at the solution of HW8 for a discussion about this issue. Also I have added some remarks at the end of the abovementioned notes.

18-12-2007: There is a short explanation about measuring Cardiac Output here.

18-12-2007: Make sure you have all handouts given in class. The handouts you have must be:

            1. A framework for human physiology

            2. Models of Neurons

            3. Basic transducers and principles

            4. The origin of biopotentials

            5. Biopotential amplifiers

            6. Blood pressure and sound

            7. Measurement of flow and volume of blood

24-12-2007: HW 4,6,7 are now due on 4-1-2008.

25-12-2007: MT2 is on 26-12-2007 in the regular classroom at 10:40.

26-12-2007: Draft solution of MT2 is posted.

5-1-2008: MT2 grades and solution are announced.

12-1-2008: I have updated the notes on The Synapse and Action Potential Generation on the Postsynaptic Mebrane. Please read this document which explains why I have updated these notes.

15-1-2008: Final exam grades are announced.

16-1-2008: Those students who are doing the optional term project should send me their project report by 22-1-2008. If the work is not finished I may consider (depending on the project topic and what I see in the report) giving some more time. However if a project report is not submitted by 22-1-2008 then I shall not give a project grade. Also please send me an e-mail indicating your project topic by 18-1-2008.

19-1-2008: After reviewing your project reports on 22-1-2008 I may need to ask for a demo.

MakeUp Exam is on 22-1-2008 Tuesday at 14:00 in EA222.

Simulation of HH equations There is a Java applet here which can be used to solve  HH equations. It is possible to
apply two current pulses the magnitude and durations of which can be set from the stimulus tag.  If the two current pulses overlap
in time then the second one has precedence over the first. The default current is a single pulse of duration 0.2 ms and of sufficient magnitude to cause an AP. This applet works with Internet Explorer 6. It may not work with other browsers. The output of the program is the time variations of Vm (red), GNa (blue) and GK (green).
